On June 23, 2016, the Dallas Business Journal awarded the top 50 fastest-growing middle-market companies in North Texas. The finalists included public and private companies with annual revenue between $25 million and $750 million and the rankings were based on revenue growth over the last three years. We are proud to announce that Southern Dock Products placed number 36! This is an honor to be on this list with such great companies (including some of our customers) and in such a high growth area like North Texas. Tell us about your company. What is your "elevator pitch"?
Loading docks and doors at distribution centers and manufacturing plants can be dangerous places. Dock and door equipment in these areas needs to be safe and operate efficiently — more often, this is not the case! We fix or replace broken doors and dock equipment, and do our work with our own technicians/employees. Our job is to provide insight and choices regarding facility safety and operational needs for docks and doors. Identifying customers "unconsidered needs" in this regard is our highest priority - we do it well! Southern Dock Products is the largest distributor in the world for the leading manufacturers of dock equipment and hi-speed doors. We sell, install and service everything we provide - and do it better than most. Our mission is "to be the most trusted sales and service distributor in our market" and we live by it!
What has been the secret to your growth?
We have transformed our business from an equipment provider for new construction to a "service first" provider for end user clients. This end user business is now 70% of our revenue, the reverse of what is was 10 years ago. While any business with a loading dock or overhead door is a potential customer, our segment focus is food/grocery distribution, retail and manufacturing. Our approach is "one customer-one contact" for all service, aftermarket and new equipment needs. This ensures quick response to requests or problems while building a strong relationship. Our model allows each division to be customer-focused, as most support functions are based in Dallas. A high growth area is our service work with large multi-state retailers, which has grown to over 12,000 service transactions annually. A proactive program we developed to provide safety and operational needs assessments for customers has been highly successful and helps make our customers' operations efficient and safe! Our entire organization understands the need to "compete as a team" and be trusted by our customers. With 18 locations in 8 states, the largest in North Texas, we adopt best practices and regularly communicate with all divisions. We are a transparent business, holding quarterly meetings for all 295 employees to share detailed results and priorities. We're blessed with loyal, committed people. Our job is to remove obstacles to their work and treat them well and with respect. Our strategy is focused and simple....We know what we do well... and where to do it!
